Making your home feel cozy is all about creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere where you can truly relax and feel at home. There are many ways to make a home look and feel cozy, and I will share quite a few below. As you might expect, what makes a home feel cozy can be different from person to person.
Ready for more cozy home ideas? let’s go ahead and jump right into it and explore some cozy home ideas together!
1 – Using lamp light Instead of Overhead Lights
One of the easiest things that you can do today to make your home feel Cozier, especially during the evening and nighttime time is simply turning off those overhead lights. They usually give off a stark look. So by turning those off and strictly using lamp lighting, your home will feel so much Cozier.
Every single evening I turn off the lights and turn all of my lamps on. Keep them on, gives this warm calming glow that makes the house feel so much Cozier. I do this in my bedrooms and the Living Spaces even my kitchen. I usually use a lot of these dimmer lamps as well. Because you can really control the amount of light that you are using which will definitely create a ton of atmosphere.
So, if you have not gotten the habit of using just your lamps at night, I highly suggest doing this. It will totally change the feeling of your home. I always suggest choosing a warm white light bulb as well. If you go for cooler lights or daylight, they do not give off the same warmth and calming feelings. So, definitely go for the warm ones.
I also like to use a lot of these Battery powered tapered candles around the house, especially during the holidays. If you have pets or kids these are super safe. They are battery powered and you can control them with a remote and they look realistic. I can not even get over how great an effect, these can have on the overall house. They give that little twinkle and glimmer throughout the house, so they are a really nice addition to the lamps.
Having all these little light fixtures around the house and the candles makes for a really cozy experience!
2 – Putting Some Scented Candles Around the Home
If you want to make your home feel cozy, you have to consider scent as well. So, if your home smells good, that makes your home feel good. So, I like to use some scented candles right at the front door and match my cleaning supplies to that scent as well. So every surface and all around the home just smells incredible.
I have used the Pine or Christmas tree scent, having that scent throughout the house just makes it feel so cozy. Usually in every season, I change up the scent. So, in the summer I would like to go with more floral and have those fruity or brighter scents. And in the winter, a warm cozy Christmas tree scent is absolutely perfect and makes the home feel cozy!
3 – Creating a Little Self-serve Station for Guests
A way of making your home feel cozy and inviting is to create a little Self-serve station. I love creating a little coffee station if people are coming over. So that, they do not have to ask for anything every time if they need something. It creates a very welcoming and hospitable environment. So, anyone can use everything that out on display without having any worries.
So, if you are doing any hosting, especially overnight hosting, definitely create a little Self-serve station. This really comes together nicely with this mug tree holder which can hold a few mugs. It really saves your guests from rummaging through your cupboards to find everything that is needed to use at the setup. You can also do something similar by rolling up some towels and putting them in a basket in the guest bedroom, so that no one has to ask for towels, everything is out and ready for them. It makes your home feel very user friendly and very inviting cozy and warm.
So, I highly recommend doing this if you are doing any hosting this season!
4 – Using more Cozy Bedding Layers
I always try and make my bedroom look as comfortable and cozy as possible. So to get that plush comfortable look, especially with your bedding. You have to use two duvets. One for the bottom for sleeping and one for extra thickness and style.
You can actually size up your bedding as well, to get that extra length flowing off the sides and it just makes it so
much more comfortable. When you pick the second duvet which is on top of that sleeping duvet, you can add a more stylish duvet that adds some texture, color, pattern, and plush thickness to your bed. After that, you can style it as you would like, and you end up with a beautiful looking bed that has extra Comfort and extra warmth. This makes your space look super cozy!
5 – Adding Throw Pillows and Blankets
Every single room of the home will feel cozy by simply mixing heavy textures, mixing cozy patterns, and mixing warm and cool tones together. So, this always applies very easily to throw pillows and blankets. Because those can be added to a space. If you have an empty sofa, it might be a cozy comfortable sofa but it is missing that warm touch. So, I like to layer in throw pillows that have mixed textures. Some with really heavy textures, like fuzzy boucle pillows, and some really classic patterns.
I find that using plaid pattern around the home, makes the entire home feel cozy. I personally, have added plaid pattern mat to my front door as well. So, I can see it right when I walk through the front door. Plaid is one of those classic patterns that work with every single design style and just instantly makes your space feel cozy. It reminds you of a winter cabin and it is just a pattern that works and layers into everything.
So, I pretty much would take every opportunity to add in heavy texture to make every single space feel cozy. That can be done through rugs, pillows and throw blankets!
6 – Placing Cozy and Inviting Furniture
Even your furniture and the fabric choices you choose, can add coziness to your home. Just picture yourself sinking into a plush sofa with velvety cushions or curling up in an armchair covered in a soft knit throw, sounds heavenly, right? So, apart from that having mix things up by adding in some natural elements like wooden side tables or wicker baskets for that extra touch of warmth and character, would give an extra coziness to your space. Don`t be afraid to play with different textures for your furniture as well. But keep in mind that the key is to choose textiles such as linen with variation and texture for a warmer look.
And don`t forget about those fluffy rugs underfoot as well. They are like a warm hug for your toes!
7 – Organizing the Front Entrance to Avoid Clutter
Finally, creating a sense of peace right when you walk through the door will create a sense of coziness and calm in your home. So, if your front entryway looks cluttered with mail, bags, and shoes, it makes for a very stressful environment. Therefore, simply finding places to put these things away very easily, will improve the look and feel of your home.
I would place some assortment in my entryway so I can hide all of this clutter right across from the door. One thing to have is a cabinet where you can put all of the shoes away to hide them all, when people come over. so you can have a very clean entryway and it keeps everything very tidy.
Also would need to have a little basket, where you can put mail away. So simply just having a basket with a lid will help you hide your clutter by the front door and you can place this basket on the shoe cabinet. If you don`t have a Furniture piece to hide shoes, you can simply use a slightly bigger basket to throw all of those front door shoes in, and keep things tidy and clean.
I think just small things like this make so such a big improvement and make your home feel instantly cozy, comfortable, and clean.
